Prospect Watch: Some excellent pitching and timely hitting gave the Flying Chanclas de San Antonio a solid victory at home on Thursday. While the offense only managed four hits, three came with runners in scoring position as part of a four-run fourth inning. … Henry Baez threw 6.1 innings of one-run ball, delivering his seventh overall win of the season. It was the fifth time in nine starts since being promoted to the Missions that Baez has given up only one run while working at least six innings. The 21-year-old righty owns a 3.06 ERA in 50 innings since joining San Antonio, though he’s struck out only 31 in that span as he continues a steady rise through the organization. … Bradgley Rodriguez owns a 3.14 ERA as a Mission after getting five outs in scoreless fashion Thursday. That’s especially impressive for a 20-year-old who began the season in Lake Elsinore and has jumped onto the prospect radar in his first season playing domestically. The native of Venezuela has struck out 75 batters in 61.1 innings in 2024. … Lefty Ryan Och picked up his third Double-A save, working around a leadoff double to toss a scoreless ninth. … Marcos Castañon went 2-for-4 at the top of the order, including a double and an RBI. The UC Santa Barbara product has struggled in his first full season of Double-A action, posting a .674 OPS that is a far cry from his 784 career mark last year. … Joshua Mears went 1-for-4 with a double, driving in a pair of runs. Mears is oh-so-close to a .200 average for the year, batting .198, but he has a .478 OPS in September after making more consistent contact in August when he hit .274 and posted a .808 OPS.
